Storage containers, or shipping containers, are designed to transport freight around the world. They're also often used as mobile storage units and can be converted for a multitude of other purposes.

Sizes

Storage containers are available in many sizes; 8, 10, 20, 30 and 40 foot by 8', 8'6" and 9'6" are standard sizes. Some have doors at a single end, some are double-ended.

Buying

As a rough guide consider £1000 at the upper end of the price range for a good condition second-hand 20" x 8"6' container, similarly £1300 for a 40 footer. Expect to pay over £1500 for a new 20 foot container. Prices will be cheaper close to many of the ports, especially Southampton and Bristol. Delivery will be extra.
